Mens Reserve Grade - Semi Final #2 vs Urunga

Match Report Men’s Reserve Grade Northern Storm vs. Urunga.

Well this was the last game of the year for the lads missing out on a grand final spot to Urunga .But what a game it was. The Storm out played Urunga for the whole game beating them 3 goals to 2. This was a huge come back after getting beat 3 nil last week at the Cove. Every player stood up this week and played their best football. Goals were scored by Cameron Jones Brendon Meyers and Scott Tarlinton. It has taken all year for the boys to bond and play as a team. Guys we got there in the end and it’s so pleasing to see. The results this year were terrific it’s been quite a while since this team has been in a major semi final and you should be very proud of what you have achieved. We have bowed out of this competition with a win in our last game so yip yah lads and winners are grinners. Keep your selves fit over the off season and we want you all back next year so we can go one better and win a grand final.

There are three great guys I would like thank on behalf of the players and myself. They are the coach Matthew Bennett well done Matty. Thanks for your efforts this year mate I know it’s been hard with your young family and to give up your time to be with the boys is a huge effort mate. Jade Porter what can I say but thanks heaps for helping out with the ressy team it’s been a tough year for you with first grade and keeping an eye on us as well as playing thanks heaps Jade. Last but not least Collin Scully mate what can I say you’re a legend the help you have given to Matt Jade and myself this year has been fantastic. The fun on the bus trip with all the lads was a high light I still laugh when I think of that. The reserve grade team would like to thank first grade for their help the members of the Northern storm football club for their support and most of all the families and friends of the players who come to the games every week to support this great club. For the last time this season yip yah.

Mens Reserve Grade - Semi Final #1 vs Urunga

Match report men’s reserve grade semi final. Northern Storm vs. Urunga

The rain has stopped and the cove was looking great for the first semi final between the Northern Storm and the Urunga Raiders. The Storm was all over Urunga for the first 20 to 30 minutes of the game. The ball movement and passing game was a treat to watch. We had a number of chances to score goals with some great strikes at goal and 2 dot penalties but it just wasn’t our day .To Urunga’s credit they played hard and kept us without a goal for the game. Just before half time a sickening collision between Keiran Clerke and Rob Marshall ended up with a broken leg to Rob from Urunga. An ambulance had to be called to take him away to hospital.  The Storm team and club would like to wish you well in your recovery. We as a team know how passionate these two young men are and I hope they don’t lose that passion due to a bad accident. I would like to let everybody know the first player to respond to the accident was Storm Player Brendon Meyers who ran off the field to organise the ambulance and look for a stretcher even when the lines person threatened him with a yellow card. Hey Brendon well done mate that has been the best display of sportsman ship i have seen all year.

The second half began and our boys just didn’t get back into the rhythm of the game and Urunga put 3 goals in the Nett closing us out for the first final. Next weekend we play Urunga again on their turf so lads let’s get them next week we are not done yet.

No man of the match this week but best team player goes to John Paul Ndayragige  he gave up his spot to play today due to having to many players. That’s a real team and club man thanks John Paul.

Under 9 Hurricanes Round 18 vs Coffs United Pride

U/9 HURRICANES ROUND 18  –V-  THE COFFS UNITED PRIDE

What a game to play for the last game of the year.  From start to finish the team were absolutely on fire.  Compared to the last couple of weeks it was definitely a different side and they put in one of the best performances of the year.  Some fantastic passing and tremendous defence.  Not one part of their game was lacking this week.  There were plenty of goals and Jaz scored her first goal ever after Coach declared it a goal by her and not off a defender.  After a review of the video recording it clearly shows Jaz put one away.

A special mention this week goes to the Hurricane's fantastic Coach Scott and great Manager Nathan for all they do for the kids.  A further special mention goes to all the parents who get the kids to the games and training.  Well done……!!!!!!!!

Coach Scott was extremely happy with the performance and is looking forward to continuing on next year.

For the last time this year, thanks from the Hurricane's Match Reporter.

Mens 1st Dvision - Round 18 vs Westlawn Tigers

Round 18

Premier League

Northern Storm V Westlawn Tigers

Well this was the last round of the competition as we were unfortunate not to make the Semi- finals this year but the boys knew it was important to win this game for many reasons, and the first of many was we were at home at “The Cove”, there’s nothing like playing in your own back yard.

Dant Dant Dant Dant Dant Dant Dant Dant, Dant DanT DaNT DANT DANT DANT DANT DANT….”THUNDER!!!”  One of the best parts of the football week for myself is listening to that song, welcoming the boys onto the pitch with an eyeball and firm handshake as they digest their duties in single file, I can generally pick up on their vibe and today it was easy to predict what this outcome would be, rightly predicted!

I won’t go into the match in fine detail as it was witnessed or played by all and the truth is we were never in real trouble of losing this match. The Lads absolutely dominated possession and besides a laps of attention after Brendon sunk our first goal just after half time, the only real chance they had of scoring is still being collected from over the fence in Opal Cove somewhere. So to no real surprise Bruce sounded the whistle and pointed to the circle with the Mighty “Northern Storm” wining 3-1.

Two of the goals were awarded to “Brendo” who played 85 mins of reserve grade, and still had enough energy to turn our game around in 35 mins, it was great to watch. The other goal went to our work horse “Matty Latham” who enjoyed a deserving tap in, rewarding him for the ground he covered at a rate of 110% and ALWAYS!!! Well done mate! The scores not settled yet though, we left “Turns” out there and he was last seen this morning still trying to bag that last goal, so it could possibly be 4-1 by now.

Man of the Match – In a match up that could have gone to a number of players it was “Gum” who was awarded the “Baby Arm” for the last time this year and rightfully so, well done brother. Mykel Watson also enjoyed one of the cold beers. In the 4 years I have coached the boys Mykey hasn’t missed 1 game, not one and played 90 minutes in all of em! Now if that’s not commitment to your team and club what is? Awesome Bean

The other most enjoyable thing of the football week for all of us is singing that bloody song, how good is it when we jam that thing down properly!!! It has always been sung according to the fashion we played or importance of the game, some of them we’ve skipped through, some out of key and some spot on. Well this one was spot on, perfect timing perfect tempo and perfect passion, perfect end! Thanks for the Ice Bath Brendo

Lads, we gave it everything we could this year and with a full squad every week we could mix it with anyone. But in my belief this was why we couldn’t crack the top 4. Had we had a little more depth in committed 1st grade players I have no doubt we would have been fighting for the title again, but that’s footy hey.  Thank you guys for another enjoyable year and having Colin and myself share the sheds with you is something we’re both very proud of. You’re such a good bunch of blokes and we simply couldn’t do it with anyone else or any other team. We’ve had a ball!

A huge thank you goes to “OUR CLUB” and everyone who makes it run from the ground up. All the supporter’s, girlfriends, wives, kid’s, O/35’s on the hill, you name it. It really is an extended family and it takes the commitment of many hands to make it run well, so again thank you Michael & Craig and please extend this thank you to all. Tevor – Mate its blokes like yourself who clubs are richer for having. The work you and Wendy have put in is enormous, cheers guys. Widdow – Some of your best work yesterday mate, you even had the nerve to thank the Cow that was slaughtered and eaten on the day Bahahahahahah. I’ve heard it all…well I thought I had!! Tanya – fair dinkem funniest reaction call I’ve ever heard at any game, Enjoy your snag mate! Matty Bennett – Congratulations on getting the reserve grade through to the finals and thanks for putting your hand up this year, it’s great having you back at the club and inspirational to see you beat all those players and blast that goal in from 75 yards out. Best of luck to Resies & O/35’s in the semis!

Nathan Skinner –  You’ve done a great job leading your team out each week and your help and commitment over this period has been much appreciated, cheers Skin.

Colin – Legend! Not enough paper to extend

Yip Yah

Mens Reserve Grade - Round 18 vs Westlawn Tigers

Match Report Men’s Reserve Grade

Northern Storm vs. Westlawn Round 18

Well the regular season is now complete and the lads move onto the semi’s and are in some good form. The first half saw the Storm go ahead through a good goal from Paul Malith.  Paul’s took the correct option and had the shot and the shot had too much power for the keeper and it went through his hands into the back of the net for a 1 – 0 lead.  Westlawn kept the game up to the Storm and had an equaliser through a good shot just outside the box which beat the Storms goalkeeper Adrian Keegan.  Following this some great hussle by Brendon Myers to win the second phase header and provide a great ball for Daniel Aryjong to slot home to make it 2 -1.  Some good ball skills shown by Salvador Wamara allowed him to pass it to Brendon Myers who spotted Matthew Bennett coming from the clouds and once again Myers provided the assist for Bennett to slam home the storms 3rd goal from about 25 yards out for a 3 – 1 lead at half time.

The second half was dominated by the storm and through a lack of finishing and some poor options in front of goal no further goals were added.  Some good defensive work by Scott Tarlinton, Jayden Kachel, John Paul and David Poverello ensured the storms goalie Jordan Andrews was not tested in the second half.  Once again Enoch Marc, Cameron Jones, Marual Mangor and Daniel Harris all played their part to ensure the win and ensure Storm are back in form heading into the finals.

Our man of the match this week goes to Salvador for a solid game where he continually hassled the Westlawn defence and made some great defensive plays when required, well done mate. To all the storm supporters please come and support the guys during the semi finals as you support always helps lift the lads. Lets bring it home now!

Under 9 Hurricanes Round 17 vs Orara Valley Joeys

U/9 HURRICANES ROUND 17  –V-  THE ORARA VALLEY JOEYS.

This week’s game was a mix of everything.  The team started well and had heaps of opportunities that were squandered by some great goal keeping from the Joeys' Keeper.  There wasn’t much room for open play with such a small field and thus the team struggled to play their normal open game.  The second half saw more chances go begging and the Joeys took control of the game with some fierce attack.  We were noticeably frustrated with the lack of space.  With one game to go to the end of the season everyone will be out in force next week.

A special mention this week goes to Nick and Knox for great all round play.

Coach Scott was happy with the performance but acknowledged the difficulties we had with the small field.

Thanks from the Hurricanes Match Reporter.

Mens 1st Dvision - Round 17 vs Sawtell Scorpions

NORTHERN STORM - MATCH REPORTS

Senior Mens

Round 17 – against Sawtell

First Grade – report by Colin Scully

What an entertaining game, played in cold windy conditions on a pitch in dire need of water.

The refereeing was outstanding and hence the game flowed – none of this stupid stop-start rubbish we have had to put up with for the majority of the season AND the ref knew the rules of the game. WOW.

Both sides had plenty of opportunities to score but brilliant goal-keeping from both sides kept the match scoreless.

Our lads played great footy – everybody really “put in” – there were many excellent passages of play including very sharp crisp passing and then a number of killer through balls from midfield to the strikers and flanks that were exceptional. Our defence was very solid and it was pleasing to see our backs combining and interchanging with our flanks.

It has to be said that Grant Scully’s direct free-kick was a ripper and how the Sawty GK kept the ball out is mind boggling.

There were plenty of sore bodies at the end of the game – bloodied legs, eggs on legs the size of golf balls. This just showed the nature of the game – very fast, tough football.

Special thanks to Salvadore Wamara and Daniel Anyijong from Ressies – lads when you came on to the park in the second half of the match it was great to see you get involved immediately and enjoy your time on the park. Scott Tarlinton who stepped up from Ressies to play a full game in First Grade was outstanding – well done Scott.

A great effort lads. Bring on Westlawn next week and enjoy your footy lads.

Northern Storm 0 Sawtell 0

Man of the Match was Mitch Weeden – brilliant saves Mitch.

Our last competition match is Sunday, 10th August - Storm play Westlawn at The Cove, Korora. Reserve Grade kicks off at 12pm and First Grade at 2pm

PLEASE come along and support the lads.

Mens Reserve Grade - Round 17 vs Sawtell Scorpions

Match Report Round 17 Northern Storm vs. Sawtell Men’s Reserve Grade

Not a good week for the Storm going down 3 goals to 1. Sawtell played very good catching us off guard numerous times. Our defence and attack was lacking most of the game. Sawtell scored in the18th minute of the first half and twice in the second half at the 27th and 29th minute. Our goal came from an own goal from Sawtell. We had a lot of changes this week with players out due to sickness injuries and other commitments. I would like to thank Craig Caruana and Andrew Plumb for helping us make up the numbers this week. These guys are over 35 and you still got it lads well done. To the rest of our team chin up lads we know we are a great side. Let’s get back into winning form this week at Korora. Man of the match this week is Salvador Wamara for some great crosses and professional attitude. I would also thank Jordan Andrews you had a good game mate forget the three that got past you could have been a lot worse you made some great saves.

Under 9 Hurricanes Round 16 vs Coffs Coast Cougars

U/9 HURRICANES ROUND 16  –V-  THE COFFS COAST COUGARS.

A more cohesive performance from the team this week.  We got off to a roaring start and dominated the first half with solid defence and fantastic open play.  We fell asleep after half time but the team got back to their best after the oranges kicked in.  Plenty of goals were scored and the Cougars put up a pretty good fight with some brilliant goal keeping to keep them in touch with the Hurricanes.  In the end the Hurricanes were too strong and it was reassuring to see them take on board what they focused on at training last week.

A special mention this week goes to Sam and Alec for great all round play and passing.

Coach Scott was happy with the performance but said we need to look at our start after half time.

It might have been the team get together on the weekend that got the guys going this week.  What a great day for all the families of the Hurricanes.

Thanks from the Hurricanes Match Reporter.
