This
game was going to be a vital guide to where the girls are at so far this season
as Boambee played in last year’s Grand Final and are an experienced and well
drilled team.
The
game got under way and from the outset Boambee showed that it was going to be a
physical and tough game for our girls. Not before long Boambee had started the
first of a number of first half raids on the Storm goal.
After
numerous shots either going over, wide of the goal or coming off the cross bar
the Storm found their way down the other end of the field only to be out
muscled off the ball by their more physical opponent.
Boambee
kept the raids coming only to be stopped by the excellent defence of Clare ‘The
Axe’Brauer & Shauna Manuel in the centre of defence ably assisted by Achol
Garang, Jess Swilks and the courageous Ella Lloyd who gave her all playing
whilst sick.
At
half time the score was locked at 0-0 with the Storm girls holding their heads
high after a gutsy half of football.
The
second half got under way with Boambee looking to press and shortly after the
break they broke the deadlock going 1-0 up. With the changes flowing and the
Storm midfield working tirelessly the girls continued to try and launch an
attack on the Boambee goal.
Boambee
put their second goal away courtesy of a Penalty kick after Shauna brought down
one of the opposition strikers. Soon after Boambee had sealed the victory with
a third goal.
To
the girls credit they never stopped trying and gave it their all for the full
90 minutes. It is pleasing to see that all the hard work the girls are putting
in during the dread fitness drills is paying off.
Player
of the Match went to the Golden Glove of the team who played through pain after
dislocating her finger at training on Tuesday. Well played Liana Hall.
A
big welcome to Aimee who has just arrived back to our shores after spending
some time in America.
