The
girls were looking to bounce back after a disappointing mid week lose to
Woolgoolga. We knew life wasn’t going to be an easy game against the much more
experienced team in Coffs United.
Things
weren’t going to plan in the first half with passes not hitting the mark and
the girls looking a little sluggish. To the girls credit they battled their way
through it and went into the sheds down 1-0.
With
a few encouraging words at oranges the girls were back at it looking to take
the fight to Coffs and bag a couple of goals. The job was made slightly more
difficult when Coffs bagged a second goal but to the Storm Girls credit their
heads stayed high.
With
about 15 minutes to go the Storm was right back in the game with a wonderful
left foot strike from Monique ‘Grandma’ Tucker. This made for a grandstand
finish with the Storm pushing for the win.
With
only 2 minutes left on the clock ‘Grandma’ made one of her trademark runs into
the penalty area only to be brought down by a stray Coffs defender leg. This gave
Aimee ‘Jetsetter’ Longley the chance to open her storm account from the penalty
spot. Aimee sealed the draw by expertly slotting her spot kick in the top right
corner of the goal and earning the girls a well deserved point.
Man
of the match went to the always running Grandma of the team Monique. While
special mention goes to Hollie Ide who never gave up running on her wing.
I
would like to wish Michael ‘Boss Man’ Lloyd and his family a well deserved
holiday in Italy and I hope we can continue the good form whilst he is away.
