July 2013 #2

Hi All,

Hope you are having a great season. The Club is having a very good year and thanks to all of you who have helped out. There is plenty of action coming up over the next few weeks as we head towards the finals, don’t forget to keep checking our website for further information on events

General Information:

Committee & Volunteers
We are a not for profit volunteer organisation, and all committee members have day jobs as well. So it is critical we get as many helpers as possible. The club needs volunteers to run smoothly, the more the better!

We currently have several committee positions open, and we always need general help on game days. If you can spare even 1 or 2 hours a week please help us out. In particular if you can help in any way with canteens when we are busy, don’t hesitate to jump in and help out

Positions Vacant:
Treasurer (Committee Position), 4-5 hours per week
Ground Control (York St - Saturdays), 3 hours per week 8:30am – 11:30am
Uniforms & Equipment (Committee Position), 1 hour per week
Canteen Manager (Korora), 6 hours per fortnight (Sunday home games for Senior Men at Korora)

Plus each team needs to help out with Saturday morning raffles at York St , when you are rostered on we need 1 person to sell tickets during your game. These are a great fundraiser for us so please help out

Amart AllSports:
Our club earns 5% on every dollar you spend at Amart AllSports , please sign up for this program at the store. This is a great way to help the club buy much needed equipment

What’s on?

Under 6’s
19th May
On Sunday 19th May the Under 6s Storm side travelled from Coffs Harbour to Grafton for the West Lawn Tigers Football Club Gala day.
The boys represented The Northern Storm club under the nickname Tornadoes and played 4 games on the day.
Isaac, Liam, Toby, Barton, Logan, Melchor, Jaspar & Zar all played great football & we rotated the boys to keep them all fresh for the 4 games with plenty of goals scored by our lads. It was a brilliant sunny day and the boys all gathered much needed game time experience in there first year of football. The boys all received a medal for there attendance which they displayed to their proud parents.Teams from all over the region represented there clubs with distinction.
I would like to thank Our Club “The Storm”, Coach Dylan Sambrook, the parents of our boys & The Westlawn Tigers Football Club for a great family day and a successful endorsement for the sport of Football in our region.

29th June
After a rainy week the weather held out on Saturday morning for the 9.00 Kickoff at York St for the Under 6s between Northern Storm & Coffs United & Orara.
Northern Storm fielded 4 sides on the day with no subs. Coffs United fielded 3 sides & Orara fielded the 1 side.
Even with the boggy pitch & mud there where plenty of goals scored on the day. Zahlee our only under 6 girl led the boys with a bag of goals 6 in total.
Well done Zahlee I’m sure the Matildas Aussie ladies will be taking note in years to come.
Well done everyone on a great morning of Football. The turn out was great as it was the start of School holidays.
Keep practising & the hard work shows improvement.

Robert Gurber – U6 Coach

U12 Tornadoes
29th June
A challenging win this morning against a much improved Bellingen side.
The first half saw some great passages of play with the first goal starting from our backs, through the halves, out to a wide receiver and into the strikers to finish.
Put away those early chances and take some of the pressure off the team is the message from today's game as well as controlling the ball and looking for options out wide from the back half of the field
We could/should have been in front by three or four at half time, stay calm in front of goal, get balanced then belt your shot

No reserves led to a few tired legs in the second half and some sloppy play which allowed the oppositions 2 goals - keep running, move to an open option and strike your passes with conviction
Three second half goals, all well thought out and executed gave us the cushion but twice the opposition came within one goal of drawing even.

All in all another win for the good guys and we maintain our position atop of the table - note every team will be more determined to knock us off the perch. MOTM this week with a solid performance and 2 goals to boot - Luca

22nd June
Well with six of our regulars out this weekend we took on Boambee with ten on the park. The emphasis on today's game was to maintain possession and that's what we did for the vast majority of the fifty minutes playing time. Solid work all around the field with some fantastic movement of both ball and players resulted in a solid win
Plenty on the scoresheet including Maya at her lucky field, Tom from 35m + out, Jesse with a great header, Jonah with a left footer, Ethan slotted a brace, but alas poor Ben as hard as he tried he couldn't seem to find the back of the net, hitting the woodwork three times and pulling great saves from an ever tiring keeper - you know your more than due Ben

Back to the top of the table after today's performance but let's not rest on our laurels as we all know there are some pretty tough games ahead from here to seasons' end.
MOTM - for sheer persistence, determination and great running - Ben

Under 7’s
13th July

Well, well, well
What a fantastic day!

Boys your improvement over the last few months has been fantastic. Well done lads.
Within my game I saw boys dribbling from one end to the other and scoring; a hunger for the ball; great moves which saved goals. I heard stories from the two other games of great ball work, passing and the marking of the other team.  Again well done boys.

Parents, thanks to all lending a hand today, from setting up fields, time keeping and cleaning up after the game, Thank You.
A special thank you to Tracee (Flynn's mum) for selling the raffle tickets today.

Wal Brooks – U7 coach
