Men's 1st Division - Northern Storm 4 vs Coffs Coast Tigers 3
Scorers: Brendon Myers (3), Tristan Albert
Report:
Needing a win to ensure relegation was not a possibility (Storm entered the game with 14 points compared to Woolgoolga's 12, meaning a Storm loss and a Woolgoolga win over Orara, a game that was ultimately washed out, would mean Storm faced this fate), Storm came into this match with a great determination after Friday's heatbreaking 5-4 loss to 3rd placed Orara Valley Dingoes.
Storm started the match at a furious pace but gave away a penalty early on. Stand-in keeper Beajay Wendt made a miraculous save by practically sitting on the ball and ensured the score remained 0-0. However it would not be long before the home team tested again, this time through a well-weighted pass which caught the Storm defence napping, Tigers finishing the move off to take a 1-0 lead. Shortly afterwards Brendon Myers played a tantalising cross into the box which took a deflection off a Tigers defender and ended up in the back of the net. With the score at 1-1, referee Phil Payne controversially awarded an indirect free kick to Tigers inside the Storm box, which was expertly dispatched to give Tigers a 2-1 lead. But the scoreboard changes were far from over and it was the livewire Sal Kitila (who had earlier replaced Jamie Kennedy after a hamstring injury) who made inroads and drew a foul in the Tigers box. Brendon Myers stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way, burying the ball in the bottom left corner. Half time and a 2-2 scoreline was a fair reflection on a close and high-scoring encounter.
At oranges, coach Jade Porter emphasised a steady and relaxed approach for the Storm midfield in the second half, and his advice was heeded 15 minutes in when Sal Kitila played in Tristan Albert who keenly finished off a one on one opportunity to give Storm a 3-2 lead. With 20 minutes on the clock referee Payne stepped up once again to add an element of drama to the game in awarding Tigers a controversial 3rd penalty, but this time Wendt was well beaten in between the sticks and could only watch as the ball sailed into the back of the net to lock the match up at 3-3. A determined Storm were far from disheartened and continued to push relentlessly in attack. Finally the pressure paid off with less than 10 minutes on the clock, with Brendon Myers cutting in from the right and finishing at an acute angle to complete his hat-trick and seal a memorable 4-3 win for the Thunder. The match will go down as one of the more important in Storm's recent history as it was essential in keeping the club in the top flight much to the delight of the travelling Korora fans. The squad on the day was: Beajay Wendt, Michael Turner, Wade Hudson, Nathan Skinner, Mykel Watson, Mitch Beal, Jason Hart, Jamie Kennedy, Matt Latham, Tristan Albert, Brendon Myers, Tim Klingbiel, Sal Kitila and Robert Bradford.
The team song was performed with a great enthusiasm and accompanied vociferously by Jason Hart's pitbull/staffie Diesel who barked along in time. Earlier in the day the Under 21s were extremely unlucky to come away with only a 1-1 draw and had two goals controversially disallowed. Coach Will Randall said that standout games came from Kapaw Too, Sal Kitila, Tim Klingbiel and Peter Malith, while Jackson Lloyd performed well in goals.

Men's 1st Division - Northern Storm 1 vs Orara Valley Dingoes 2
Scorers: Brendon Myers
Report:
Northern Storm went into Saturday's games at Orara needing full points in both grades. Starting the day in the lofty position of 3rd, big things were expected of the Thunder First Grade side, who were looking to cement 3 points and keep in touch with the top 4. Unfortunately things did not exactly go as planned and the Dingoes had other ideas about the game's outcome.
The match started on a damp pitch under the cool afternoon skies of Dairyville Road with both sides playing scrappy football and neither settling into a consistent passing game. It was Orara who drew first blood, when just a few minutes into the match they capitalised on a miscommunication in the Storm backline to take the scoreline to 1-0 and send the enthusiastic home fans into delirium. The messy nature of the game continued through the half though Brendon Myers showed a keen eye for goal to nab an equaliser on the stroke of half time.
Coming out in the second half with everything to play for, both sides were desperate for the win and it showed in the form of a number of physical challenges and minor verbal scuffles. It was Orara that gained the ascendancy however, as Storm failed to calm down and settle into their passing game. The home side's pressure paid off about 20 minutes into the half through a heavily deflected goal that snuck past the fingertips of the diving Adrian Keegan who put in a valiant effort throwing himself through the air in an attempt to keep it out. The remainder of the half saw a desperate Storm continue to press through Matt Latham and Tristan Albert but ultimately fail to trouble the scorers any further.
Standout performances on the day came from Brendon Myers who ran himself into the ground and worked hard to finish the day with a well deserved goal, Mykel Watson who was outstanding in defence and Jason Hart who worked like a terrier in the heart of the midfield. Final score 2-1 to Orara and Storm will look to regroup next week against Coffs Coast Tigers at 'The Cove' and get their finals aspirations back on track by regaining their early season form.

Jamie Kennedy suffered a knee injury early in the first half but played through to the final whistle.
Storm's midfield could not string passes together on a difficult day at the office.
Youth League - Northern Storm 6 vs Orara Valley Dingoes 2
Report:
Youth League turned in a dominant performance and put a strong Orara side to the sword with a comprehensive 6-2 victory. Storm started by piling pressure on the Orara defence right from the kickoff before going one up just a few minutes in. By the 25 minute mark they had taken a 4-0 lead and continued to press, having two shots cleared off the line and one disallowed. Just a few seconds before the referee blew his whistle for oranges Orara snared a soft goal on the counter to make it 4-1.
With coach Will Randall stressing the importance of finishing the game off and not resting on the strong performance of the first half during his team talk, Storm came out continuing to fire on all cylinders and further pressed home the advantage steadily taking the score to 6-1. A couple of minutes before full time an Orara attacker received the ball well ahead of the last Storm defender and slotted it away while the Storm players looked up in horror to see the linesman with his flag still down.
With a final score of 6-2, Storm can be satisfied with an excellent performance apart from two minor and unfortunate blemishes. Solid performances once again from Lachlan Binet, who was consistent and dependable as ever in defence, Daniel Harris, who ran intelligently and created spaces with ease, Sal Kitila who orchestrated the midfield and the livewire pair of Peter Malith and Kapaw Too who injected flair and energy into the attack. Billy Irvine and Panchi Chiossoni also performed admirably in attack. Storm have now won 3 on the bounce in Youth League and are steadily climbing up the table, currently sitting just one point outside the top 4. Both teams are hoping to cause a few headaches for the Tigers in next week's encounters at 'The Cove' on Sunday, at 12pm (Youth) and 2pm (1st Grade) which are sure to be well worth watching.
The defensive pairing of Lachlan Binet and Tim Klingbiel put in another solid 90 minute partnership.
Sal Kitila was enterprising in the heart of the midfield and orchestrated the play with a sense of maturity and calm.
Billy Irvine was effective in winning possession in midfield.

Men's 1st Division - Northern Storm 3 vs Westlawn Tigers 0
Scorers: Nathan Skinner, Jamie Kennedy, Jason Hart
Report:
It was a successful day out for Northern Storm Football Club as the Thunder took all 6 points in Sunday afternoon's senior games against Westlawn Tigers. Kick-off was delayed by an hour and the venue relocated from 'The Cove' to the club's training ground of York Street due to a mix-up but once the matches were underway it was mainly one way traffic. The relocation meant that Storm will have gone through 8 rounds of the season having played only one game at their home ground.
Storm's Under 21 side ran out 3-1 winners in a scrappy encounter where they rarely converted their dominance into goals. The goals came courtesy of a cool finish from left winger Daniel Harris, a composed low strike from Lachlan Binet and a close range header from Billy Irvine. Storm's goalkeeper Jackson Lloyd was rarely tested due to a strong defensive performance, while late cameos from Peter Malith and Kapaw Too provided Storm with an extra attacking spark. Standout performances came from the experienced pair of Sal Kitila and Kiren Clerk in central midfield who calmed things down to ensure Storm took the points, and Dictor Dangrin and Tim Klingbiel in defence, both of whom played the full 90 minutes and defended resolutely.
First grade was a somewhat spiteful encounter punctuated by a first goal in many years for centre back and Storm captain Nathan Skinner, a thunderous strike from Jamie Kennedy which rattled the woodwork before almost piercing the back of the net, and a quality header from Jason Hart late in the game ensuring that the Thunder would end the afternoon with a 3-0 win. As was the case for the Under 21s, Storm dominated proceedings from the outset but didn't make their pressure count on the scoreboard as much as they should have. Brendon Myers, returning from suspension, went close on a number of occasions, as did strike partner Tristan Albert and livewire midfielder Paul Malith, while Matt Latham worked hard in midfield contesting for possession. Mykel Watson turned in a typically reliable defensive performance and Adrian Keegan made some excellent saves on the few occasions he was called upon. The players later gathered for dinner and drinks at the club's major sponsor, The Plantation Hotel.
Storm move to 3rd place in 1st Division and 6th place in Under 21s after their respective wins, and despite the disadvantage of their opposition having games in hand, they will look to maintain their winning ways in next week's Dairyville Road encounters against Orara Valley Dingoes at 1pm and 3pm on Saturday.

Despite another dominant performance from the travelling Storm, they were unable to take control on the scoreboard and conceded early goals against the run of play. The Thunder went into half-time 3-1 down and came out in the second half with renewed enthusiasm. Unfortunately despite constant attacking, Storm missed an open goal twice and were denied two penalty shouts, ultimately causing no change to the scoreline. A disappointing loss for the boys who will be keen to avenge their defeat when they return to Maclean next week to take on the Bobcats, who were defeated in a penalty shootout upset by Clarence rivals Westlawn Tigers after a 3-3 draw in regulation time.

Men's 1st Division - Northern Storm 2 vs Woolgoolga Wolves 1
Scorers: Brendon Myers, Mykel Watson
A performance that could be described as dominant but not clinical. Storm were all over the Wolves from the game's outset and their style of football was coming together very well. The only thing that let the Thunder down was their finishing - numerous one-on-one opportunities were spurned and at times the Storm even seemed to defy physics, somehow managing not to score. But overall the performance was extremely encouraging, and apart from one runaway goal against the run of play, Storm looked relatively untroubled. With a bit of luck on their side the score could easily have blown out to 5 or 6. An excellent recovery after last week's mishaps at the Cabbage Patch, and Jade Porter's side showed a lot of character to bounce back so convincingly from such a demoralising result. Bring on the Scorpions.

Mykel Watson suffered a scare when Woolgoolga's Alex Byrne saved his first penalty attempt, but he scored with the follow up.
Youth League - Northern Storm 2 vs Woolgoolga Wolves 5
Scorers: John Mangar, Robert Bradford
Storm's Youth League side once again failed to convert possession and goalscoring chances into scoreboard dominance. They were extremely unlucky to go into the break 2-0 down after dominating the play and conceding two soft goals against the run of play. After initially having trouble adjusting to the new formation, Storm managed to claw their way back into contention before a late Woolgoolga goal killed off their revival. After the young Storm's maturation and rapid improvement in recent weeks, other sides should not expect to take them lightly as they continue onwards and upwards.

Northern Storm will take on Byron Bay Rams at Barry Watts Oval (Rannoch Avenue, Maclean) on Saturday 7th May with a kick-off time of 3:00p.m. The Rams accounted for Coffs Coast Tigers 2-1 in their 1st round encounter at BCU International Stadium on Saturday 26 March, but largely had the leaky Tigers defence to thank as they stole the win through two soft goals. 1st Grade and Youth League Trial Results
The Men's 1st Grade side played out a 1-1 draw with Sawtell on Saturday despite being dominant for much of the game. The match was punctuated by a cheeky close range backheel from Sam Sawtell to give Sawtell the lead, before great long range goal from Tom Frewen gave Storm a share of the points. The Youth League side went down 3-2 in a narrow loss where the scoreboard once again did not reflect Storm's dominance. Storm had the better of the match, with Moses and Peter forming a threatening partnership up front and our new Brazilian recruit performing admirably in goals and pulling off some outstanding saves when called upon.
